Juno star drops out of Rami horror movie

Actress Ellen Page has pulled out of Sam Raimi's new horror movie 'Drag Me To Hell'.
The 'Juno' star had agreed to play the lead role in the film, however scheduling conflicts have now forced her to withdraw.
Shooting was due to get underway on March 17 in a bid to wrap before the possible Screen Actors Guild strike on June 30, but was then delayed.
However, the new date clashed with Page's forthcoming roles in psychological thriller 'Peacock' and Drew Barrymore's directorial debut 'Whip It!'
A statement from producers Ghost House Pictures and financier Mandate Pictures, read: "We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen's schedule.
"But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential SAG strike date, this one needed more time and we had to push back the start of production."

'WALL-E' earns $23.2 million on opening Friday

'Wanted' takes in $19 million

Moviegoers gave a big, warm hug to Disney/Pixar's "WALL-E" on its opening day Friday. But even as the G-rated animated movie topped the day's boxoffice returns, Universal's R-rated "Wanted" gave it a run for its money, as the action pic roared out of the gate with a powerful second-place showing.

Setting up shop in 3,992 theaters, "WALL-E," a futuristic tale of robot-love that had critics across the country swooning, took in an estimated $23.2 million for the day. That puts it on track for an opening weekend gross that¹s sure to be in the high $60-million range.

And with enough kiddies storming the matinees and critic-driven adults taking in the evening screenings, there's even the possibility that "WALL-E," directed by Andrew Stanton, could challenge the all-time best Pixar openers, "The Incredibles" ($70.4 million) and "Finding Nemo" ($70.2 million).

Meanwhile, even though it labored under the restriction of its R-rating, "Wanted," in which James McAvoy¹s everyman mixes it up with assassins played by Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, beat the odds, grabbing an estimated $19 million in 3,175 theaters. That puts the film on a trajectory for a weekend gross in the upper $40 million to lower $50 million range, and by Monday morning should make its director Timur Bekmambetov the new go-to action guy in Hollywood.

As for the holdovers, Warners' "Get Smart," entering its second weekend, grossed about $6.6 million on Friday, down just over 50% from its opening Friday gross of $13.4 million.

Despite competition from "WALL-E," DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda," in its fourth weekend, hung on in fourth place with a Friday haul of $3.5 million.

Paramount's "The Incredible Hulk" rounded out the top five with its Friday gross of $2.9 million, as "The Love Guru" limped into sixth place with $1.9 million.

Conductor James Levine to have kidney removed

NEW YORK —

James Levine will have a kidney removed in surgery this week, causing the conductor to miss the remainder of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood season.

The 65-year-old music director of both the BSO and the Metropolitan Opera will need six weeks of recovery time, the BSO said in a statement Tuesday. He is expected to be back on the podium for the start of the Met and BSO seasons in September.

Levine's kidney is being removed because of a cyst that is causing pressure and discomfort. No other treatment will be necessary, the BSO said.

"It is extremely frustrating that I need to have this surgery now," Levine said in a statement. "My projects at Tanglewood have been planned so carefully and coordinated in such detail by the festival administration. I especially regret not being here with Elliott Carter for his 100th birthday celebration, which I was looking forward to more than I can say."

Levine conducted the BSO in the opening of its Tanglewood season last weekend in a concert performance of Berlioz's "Les Troyens."

He is due back at the Met to conduct a pre-opening performance of Verdi's Requiem on Sept. 18 to mark Luciano Pavarotti's death last September. He opens the Met season on Sept. 22 and the BSO season two days later.

Levine, who conducts while seated on a chair, has had some health problems in recent years. He has sciatica, and in March 2006 he tore his right rotator cuff when he tripped and fell on the stage of Boston's Symphony Hall during ovations that followed a performance.

After the operation, which kept him from performances for four months, Levine lost a significant amount of weight.

He has been music director of the BSO since 2004 and music or artistic director of the Met since 1976. He made his Met debut in 1971.
